FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT (TEMPORARY)
We currently have a temporary Financial Accountant position available in our Head Office located in Edmonton. The duration of this role is 12 months in length. This position is responsible for the full-cycle accounting for a P&C insurance company and ensuring the financial statements accurately records the performance of branches and the parent company. Working as part of the Finance team and reporting to the Controller, the responsibilities would include the following:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Accounting and Analysis:
Prepare, examine, and analyze production reports and translate them into journal entries and assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
Assist in month-end process including timely and accurate completion of duties by specified deadlines
Ensure account reconciliations and/or working papers are complete and appropriate follow-up on discrepancies and variances discovered on balance sheet and income statements
Provide value-added analysis in the assigned area of responsibility to assist managers and staff in operational decisions
Participate in interim and year-end audits
Complete daily bank clearing and monthly bank reconciliations on several bank accounts
Conduct special projects to provide advice and recommendations required by management
Provide support to other team members by preparing supporting working papers used as part of their responsibilities
Perform other duties as required including backing-up other personnel in the department
Reporting:
Work as part of a larger team to provide monthly financial statements and related analyses for management within tight reporting deadlines
Assist with completing accurate statutory filings well-ahead of reporting timeframes
Prepare other reporting to authorized third-parties such as external auditors, IBC, CRA, Stats Canada, reinsurers and credit agencies
Assist in coordination of monthly reinsurance reports
Support with preparing a cash forecast report at regular intervals
Backup and support reporting of broker commission
Contribute to preparation of quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets
Required Qualifications & Skills
3 or more years of progressively responsible experience in full-cycle accounting, including and experience with budgeting, analysis, forecasting, financial operations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reporting and analysis, auditing
Accounting designation or working towards is an asset
Working knowledge of IFRS, including the ability to analyze and interpret accounting standards
Previous experience in insurance or other financial services is considered an asset Strong problem solving skills, accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills
Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Tech savviness with advanced level Excel skills
Positive attitude and excellent ability to work independently and within a team in a dynamic environment, handling multiple tasks concurrently
