Summary

The Dean of Indigenous Education functions as a member of the Faculty Council of the College. This position is responsible primarily for coordinating and administering the various activities of the College Programs and shares responsibility with the President/Interim Director for certain designated programs. The Dean functions within the policies and procedures established for the Program. The Dean will act upon the advice, requests, and direction provided by the President/Interim Director, Elders, Board of Governors, Faculty and Students. The Dean is required to provide direct instructional services to students. Dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and service, the dean is expected to cultivate strong alumni and external relationships to support and grow the college; have a vision to expand the Indigenous Education as the academic center of excellence for Maskwacis and the Treaty Six region with the experience and ability to support and implement innovative instruction appropriate for a twenty first century Indigenous College. Work collaboratively with education programs at other Indigenous campuses to create innovative initiatives, certifications and degree programs; will collaboratively create and implement both short- and long-term strategic goals consistent with the college’s and university’s mission and vision: is responsible for supervision and implementation of assessment and accreditation standards.

Job Duties

• Provide educational and academic leadership for excellence in teaching and learning within the program

• Ensuring effective student support services are made available to every student in the College Programs;

• Identifying issues and concerns and working through solutions with appropriate staff;

• monitoring the ongoing instructional process and student support services in all College Program services;

• Identifying changes needed in the various program of studies to ensure these meet student requirements and employment needs;

• Assist in the development of new or revised programs;

• Develop courses ensuring outcomes are ACAT appropriate and meet accreditation requirements.

• Assist students in developing and delivering presentations for workshops and conferences held by the College.

• Provide guidance and support to students in all education programs.

• Oversees the practicum requirements for all students.

• Acting as primary contact for all M.C.C. Instructors in College Programs with regard to selecting and ordering course materials, student issues and College directives;

• Ensuring coordination of courses across all Programs;

• Providing ongoing liaison with Finance and Human Resource to ensure good and efficient articulation with College needs;

• Ensuring that the cultural integrity of the college is maintained in the College Programs;

• Accessing services from Elders, Cultural Instructors and others as needed.

• Any other duties as assigned. Requirements

• An earned master’s or doctorate from a regionally or internationally accredited institution combined with a teaching and scholarship record that will qualify the candidate for appointment as a full professor in a department in the Indigenous Education.

• Administrative leadership experience in higher education.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate and develop relationships and partnerships within the College and business community.

• Demonstrated strategic planning experience.

• Documented experience with budgets and personnel management.

• Knowledge in education accreditation standards and agencies.

• Demonstrated experience with distance learning programs.

• Knowledge of supports within the Four Nations.

• Ability to build rapport with Students, Peers and Faculty.

• Flexibility and Adaptability.

• Strong organizational skill set.

• Clear criminal record.

• Access to own vehicle/transportation.

• Willing to adhere to an oath of confidentiality.
