EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY-POSITION: Rural Wastewater OPERATOR-DEPARTMENT: Tipahaskahn Kamik (TK)NIPIY DEPARTMENT


Summary:

Under the direction of the Rural Water & Wastewater Operations Manager (RWWWOM), the Rural Wastewater Operators are responsible for the overall office and field duties working on Nation occupied home septic systems Operations and Maintenance. 


Duties and Responsibilities

·                 Reports and attends the RWWWOM regularly scheduled bi-weekly Tool Box Meeting

·                 Must be willing, ready and able to take related training as approved by the RWWWOM in the Wastewater, Septic and Plumbing Operator & Maintenance Programs

·                 Interpret prints/locates and specifications to determine the location, size and materials/tools required to complete day to day operations and maintenance to Nipiy Team

·                 Carry out routine wastewater system maintenance functions and schedule

·                 Investigate reports of wastewater leaks, backups, etc.to determine the exact extent of leaks and equipment/on site requirements

·                 Operate and maintain regulating, measuring and ensuring through daily findings, the best solutions for the optimization of septic systems


Testing

·                 Conducts septic inspections and removes sludge from individual septic systems every 2-4 years for every individual septic system that provides services to Samson Cree Nation residents, or on an as needed emergency basis in a timely manner


Geographic Information System Data Collection Field Work

·                 Collect water and wastewater infrastructure data utilizing all available equipment (tablets, line locates, etc.)  to assess and capture GIS data in SCNs GIS System Software LOUIS Toolkit as outlined in the SCN Field Work Forms

 

 

Reporting

·                 Ensures daily field Reports, hazards, issues/concerns and findings summarizing wastewater services, quality/quantity findings and water/wastewater infrastructure conditions on a daily are entered into the LOUS Toolkit on a daily basis

·                 Provide information from daily findings with Nipiy Team for the protection and proactive, Operators are assisting in Communications and the Schedule Coordinating of SCN wastewater services department between home occupants and Office


 

Equipment Maintenance

·                 Maintains and tests equipment regularly to ensure the safety and accurate end results of Service Delivered

·                 Maintains and tests tablets for LOUIS Toolkit is tested and calibrated on a daily prior to service delivery on site


Collaboration

·                 Collaborate with the Nipiy Team at the weekly/daily/as needed or scheduled

·                 Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams through the LOUIS Toolkit and reporting

·                 Assist with Nipiy Operations tasks, as directed and as needed – well service vacuum etc.


Safety

·                 Adhere to daily and all other safety protocols, guidelines and Nation approved SOPs during field and office related activities

·                 Willing to take additional training inclusive to Safety, Operations & Maintenance of Water & Wastewater O&M, upholding and ensuring compliance to OHS requirements

 

Qualifications:

·                 Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, project management training is an asset

·                 Able to operate heavy equipment

·                 Must have Confined Space Entry & Rescue, or be willing to train Basic Safety online courses

·                 Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel), experience with GIS software is an asset

·                 Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle; Class 1 or 3 is also an asset

·                 Strong oral and written communication skills

·                 Knowledge of the Cree language would be an asset

·                 Comfortable working in office and field environments, working with little direction or supervision

·                 Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously and handle a large volume of work in a timely manner

·                 Operators work both indoors and outdoors at physically demanding tasks and may be required to lift items weighing over 25 kilograms (55 lbs.)

·                 Adherence to the Samson Cree Nation NEP Manual is mandatory at all times
