Overview Tribal Chiefs Ventures Inc. (TCVI) is a Tribal Council with offices in St. Paul and Edmonton that provides advisory services to its six Treaty Six member First Nations located in North-eastern Alberta. TCVI is seeking a highly motivated Accounting Clerk to assist with the day-to-day financial functions of the Tribal Council, including but not limited to, bookkeeping and payroll. Familiarity with Sage 50 accounting for processing payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable is required. The Accounting Clerk must be familiar with all accounting procedures and have a flair for numbers. This position will assist with ensuring the accounting functions run accurately and effectively. This position will be in the Edmonton office. Requirements Recognized education or related diploma in accounting, with a minimum of two (2) years work experience in clerical accounting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. • Accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. • Experience with Indigenous Services Canada and First Nations funding. • General knowledge and understanding of accounting procedures. • Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, videoconferencing. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with accuracy and attention to detail. • Excellent time managements skills, with the ability to work under pressure and tight timelines. • Ability to file and perform record keeping tasks. • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations values, traditions, practices, and protocols. • Fluency in Cree and/or Dene is an asset. • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license. • Criminal Record check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Driver’s Abstract. Responsibilities Assist the Tribal Council with accounting and clerical duties to the accounting department: • Type accurately, prepare, and maintain accounting documents and records, including filing of documents and back-up of financial information database. • Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings, and statements in multiple companies. • Reconcile accounts in a timely manner. • Prepare cheque requisitions, including coding of invoices, and process weekly cheque run. • Assist with preparation and processing of bi-weekly payroll. • Assist and support Advisors of the Tribal Council with reporting requirements for Indigenous Services Canada and other government and funding agencies. • Assist with compiling reports/summaries on projects for internal and external use. • Key information must be kept confidential. • Other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
