Overview The RHSW will work with the IRS Coordinator and report to the Manager of Samson Community Wellness.
The RHSW will provide a wide range of services to former Indian Residential School students and their families, those included under added Court Orders that include: 60’s Scoop, Indian Hospitals, MMIWG, Indian Day Schools and Day Scholar.
The RHSW will provide services in a variety of different areas including but not limited to; Referrals for Professional Therapist, Referrals for Cultural Supports, Advocacy, Emotional support, Counseling, Facilitation, Mediation, Cultural teachings/activities, Wholistic Health teachings/activities, IRS education including those non-Indigenous organizations that request for it, Self-Care, and Healing Circles.
Roles and Responsibilities:
● Provides monthly/quarterly/yearly financial and statistical reports to the funding agency,
● Will be on call for National/Regional/Community Crisis Response, MMIWG national/regional/community events, unmarked graves,
● Provide health support for hearings, reconciliation/legacy/commemoration events.
● Attend monthly meetings for networking, training, statistics and adjudication secretariat hearings and IAP Records Disposition.
Skills:
❖ Must have an understanding of cultural norms, values, protocols, specific to the area in which support is being given in the community,
❖ Excellent communication and writing, including report writing skills,
❖ Strong diplomacy skills, understanding community protocols,
❖ Public speaking, interpersonal skills
❖ Ability to work independently
❖ Computer efficiency in Microsoft, Google, Excel/Sheets, Outlook, Power Point Qualifications:
● Must have the Regional Support Health Worker (RSHW) certification or willing to train,
● Training in Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement Court Order and it’s 5 components; Common Experience Payment CEP, Independent Assessment Process IAP, Adjudication Secretariat/records disposition, Commemoration, and Truth and Reconciliation Commission TRC.
● Must have or will to train for healing supports to address; impacts of IRS, trauma and related triggers, counseling skills Crisis intervention, Suicide prevention, Healing Circles, (Certified) Trauma Recovery, Grief Support, MMIWG, Ambiguous Loss Provider, Suicide Prevention Mending Broken Hearts
