The AMO Society provides child, youth & family protection services for the Louis Bull Tribe. The AMO Society provides prevention services and resources for the primary principle of keeping families together. It is our belief that supporting the family and parent/guardian of an Awasisahk should be a preferred way of protecting the child and keeping families together.

General Description

Reporting to the Prevention Manager of the Asikiw Mostos O’pikinawasiwin Child and Family Services Society, the Prevention Worker will provide services to the community members of Louis Bull Tribe First Nation. The Prevention worker will work primarily with school aged children/youth by providing intervention/prevention services through education and awareness programs and ensure that the program is implemented in a manner based on unity, traditions, values, beliefs and customs of the Louis Bull Tribe First Nation serviced by the Society; and, per the funding agreements and the First Nations’ standards.

Role description

Under the direction of the Prevention Manager, the Prevention Worker’ primary responsibility is:

• As a designated Prevention Worker, the incumbent will collaborate with schools, parent-teacher groups and Health Centre team to provide information and awareness on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

• Collaborate to provide educational and prevention services for Louis Bull First Nation children and youth.

• Participate in alcohol, tobacco or other drug awareness campaigns for the purpose of providing anti-substance use message.

• Document all program activities for reporting purposes and have excellent communication skills.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Mental Health Team.

• Duties may include having to work occasional evenings or weekends.

• Other duties as required, entering information on Redmane database.

• Provide information to the Prevention Manager to allow for the development of strategies for communicating service and program impacts as part of the Society’s overall

communications strategy.

• Maintain liaison with AMO staff, relevant personnel of community resources,

professionals, traditional healers and all others concerned with the provision of the prevention program.

• Completing and maintaining appropriate documentation.

• Providing direct service and support to children in the care of the AMO Child Protection and their caregivers.

• Prioritizing and effectively managing caseload expectations.

• Providing after-hours emergency child protection coverage on a rotation basis; and Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Degree or two-year post-secondary diploma in Social Work preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered under special circumstances.

• Minimum of two (2) years work experience in the area of child and family services.

• Must have a current & valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license, own vehicle with $2M Auto liability insurance.

• Knowledge of the AMO Law, Bill C-92 and Louis Bull Constitution

• Knowledge of the Cree culture and language would be an asset.

• Strong ability to anticipate and address problems.
