The AMO Society provides child, youth & family protection services for the Louis Bull Tribe. The AMO Society provides prevention services and resources for the primary principle of keeping families together. It is our belief that supporting the family and parent/guardian of an Awasisahk should be a preferred way of protecting the child and keeping families together.
We are looking for an Assistant Children’s Commissioner who will report to and work with the Executive Director/Children’s Commissioner. This appointment will be made by the AMO Board. This position is designed to monitor, assess and report on services provided to children in care, advocating on issues that affect children and young people, raising awareness of and advancing the Louis Bull Tribe, Asikiw Mostos O’pikinawasiwin on the Rights of the AMO law.
Qualifications:
• MSW preferred, however, willing to accept a Master’s degree in a different field with a minimum ten (10) years child & family service experience and management and supervisory experience. Extensive experience and knowledge of working in the child welfare system, including child protection, fostering, adoption, contract management, proposal writing, human resources, strategic planning and financial management.
• A minimum experience of ten years in organizational management including supervisory, human resources, financial management, contract management, strategic planning, and standards compliance.
• Policy Knowledge of DFNS Agreements and Indigenous Service Canada programs and funding model
• Working in collaboration with partner organizations.
• Working in collaboration with a Governance Board of Directors.
• Knowledge of AMO Policies, Procedures, Bill C-92 and AMO Law
• Very good knowledge of MS Office and office equipment such as photocopier, scanner etc.
• Good command of English both oral and written.
• Knowledge of the Cree language and culture is required.
• Dependable with a respect to confidentiality and policies
• Experience in delivering culturally sensitive services.
• Demonstrated familiarity with local community resources.
• Solid understanding of working in an Indigenous-based organization and culture.
• Excellent organizational skills
• Great attention to detail
Requirements:
· Certification/Diploma/Degree verification
· Three references letters (one from your previous employer)
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, and provide a Driver’s abstract, and proof of two-million-dollar liability
· Reliable transportation, proof of registration & insurance of personal vehicle
· Child Welfare Check
· Criminal Record check
· Vulnerable Sector Screen.
