Function of body
§ This is a unique post that is designed to influence positive change for children and young people in Louis Bull, transforming understanding and acceptance of the importance of children’s rights.
§ It is a high-profile role which has a significant media and public profile. Appointments will be made by the AMO Board and Executive Director.
§ To monitor, assess and report on services provided to children in care. Advocating on issues that affect children and young people. Raising awareness of and advancing the Louis Bull Tribe, Asikiw Mostos O’pikinawasiwin on the Rights of the Child Declaration.
Role description
§ You will safeguard and promote the rights and welfare of all children and young people up to the age of 18 (and in some cases to 22) in Louis Bull. This is the principle aim of the Commissioner as set out in legislation.
§ You will inspire people to achieve better outcomes for all children and young people in Louis Bull under all areas of policy, legislation, decision-making and practice that affect their lives.
§ You will stimulate national discussion and debate about achieving a society that respects children and young people and places a real value on offering them the opportunities they need to fulfill their individual potential.
§ You will provide national leadership and will make a difference to children and young people’s lives by establishing strong partnerships and powerful relationships with people and organisations.
§ You will lead on the scrutiny of Government and other organisations to deliver responsive services shaped by the thinking and opinions of children and young people.
§ You will fulfil role by ensuring that transparent financial accounting monitoring and review mechanisms are implemented.
§ You will lead a strong, confident, inspiring and resilient all-Louis Bull organisation that works effectively as a team to ensure that children and young people are a national priority.
Qualifications
· MSW preferred however, willing to accept a Master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum 10 years child & family services experience and management and supervisory experience.
· A minimum experience of ten years in organizational management including human resources, financial management, contract management, strategic planning, and standards compliance.
· A minimum for 10 years of experience in a supervisory role
· Strong knowledge of the AMO law, Bill C-92 and Louis Bull Constitution is an asset.
· Policy Knowledge of DFNS Agreements and Indigenous Service Canada programs and funding model
· Experience working with Indigenous community, government agencies, community services and families is an asset.
· Financial, governance, and human resources management experience.
· Working in collaboration with partner organizations.
· Working in collaboration with a Governance Board of Directors.
· Extensive experience and knowledge of working in the child welfare system, including child protection, fostering, adoption, contract management, proposal writing, human resources, and financial management.
· An individual who has experience in delivering culturally sensitive services.
· Demonstrated familiarity with local community resources.
· Solid understanding of working in an Indigenous-based organization and culture
